History and Background

The founder of the Pierce Beekeeping Equipment Company, Paul Pierce, developed and patented an electric uncapping knife in the USA in 1941. This original knife has since become the industry standard and is preferred and valued by beekeeping experts worldwide.

Pierce Beekeeping Company continues to handcraft these heated knives in Southern California, USA, and exports them globally. Many have tried to replicate this knife, but those who have experienced the original understand why we call it the “uncapping knife with power.” It is simply a joy to see how smoothly the uncapping process goes and how thoroughly the honeycomb surface is prepared for winter storage and spring restart.

Technical Information

• Electric Uncapping Knife from the USA – original Speed King, 230V version for the EU (supplied with EU safety plug).
• Power: 500 watts of “power”! (It is the same model that other retailers list as 575 watts – in reality, it’s a sufficient 500 watts. We are not sure why others list it as 575 watts, but after consulting with Anura, it is indeed 500 watts).
• Total Length: ~420 mm for the standard version with 25 cm length / ~490 mm for the extra-long (32 cm) version.
• Effective Heating Knife Length: ~230 – 250 mm for the standard version / ~320 mm for the extra-long version.
• Width: 50 mm.
• Cable Length: 2.30 m.
• The knife is preset to the optimal temperature and heats up as soon as it is plugged in. Therefore, no temperature control is needed and is not included.
